This article demonstrates the application of a methodology for evaluating the impact of knowledge management initiatives in organizations, focusing on their ability to promote innovation, improve operational efficiency and drive results at a large Brazilian oil and gas company. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, the research analyzes how structured practices for capturing, sharing, and applying knowledge contribute to the results of knowledge management practices. The motivation to quantify the impact of knowledge management initiatives was a long-standing desire of the organization's managers, who had already been conducting this type of assessment in training and development for several years. Developed by knowledge management employees in a pilot project conducted in 2024, the methodology for evaluating the impact was updated to include three knowledge management practices (mentoring, tutoring, and communities of practice). The article provides guidance on how and when to implement this approach, demonstrating numerical indicators and intangible benefits that add value to the business, such as increased productivity, time savings, cost reduction, and risk mitigation. It is hoped that, based on this application, other public and private institutions will be able to formally evaluate the results of their knowledge management practices, without relying solely on linking these results to a scorecard or management indicators.
