Abstract

One of the biggest challenges during basic design of a crude distillation unit is to study its integrated behavior between its fractionators and its heat integration on the pre-heat train. In search of a complete tool, a complex crude unit was modelled using a commercial process simulator. The modelled unit was REPAR’s crude unit (U-2100) that has four fractionators integrated into a complex pre-heat train consisting of fifty seven shell and tube heat exchangers. The results showed that the developed model is quite representative of the plant data and adds value to the basic design phase as well as to the life cycle of the facility, as it can be used in various optimization production.
